(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 24 - Italy is set to start vaccinating children aged five-to-11 for COVID-19 in December, Health Undersecretary Pierpaolo Sileri said on Wednesday.
Children aged 12 and over are already able to get vaccinated for the coronavirus.
Giorgio Palù, the head of Italian medicines agency AIFA, said earlier in the day that Italy could give the all-clear to vaccines for five-to-11-year-olds as early as Monday if the European Medicines Agency (EMA) makes it decision on this issue this week.
"It is necessary to vaccinate children because, if they get ill, there is a risk of complications, including serious ones," Sileri told Sky television.
"And it is necessary to talk about Long COVID because children can have ailments that last a long time because the virus attacks many organs.
"The vaccine will be available (for younger children) from early December". (ANSA).
