COVID transmission high in some areas-monitoring report (2)

(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 10 - The weekly monitoring report by the Health Ministry and the Higher Health Institute (ISS) said Friday that coronavirus infection perists in Italy.
    "Although the lockdown measures made it possible to effectively control SARS-CoV-2 infection, widespread transmission of the virus persists when favourable conditions occur, causing outbreaks, including some of a significant size," it said.
    "New cases of infection were diagnosed in almost all of the regions and autonomous provinces during the week of monitoring from June 29 to July 5, with an increase in cases with respect to the previous week in some areas.
    "The overall picture of the transmission and impact of the SARS-CoV-2 infection in Italy remains one of a low level of criticality with a cumulative incidence of the previous 14 days (22/6-5/7 period) of 4.3 per 100,000 inhabitants (down slightly) "At the national level, a slight decrease in the number of newly diagnosed cases reported to the integrated surveillance system coordinated by the ISS was observed with respect to the previous week of monitoring, with national Rt number of 1.
    "Although in decline, the number of reported new cases remains high in some regions. This calls for caution as it shows that, in some parts of the country, SARS-CoV-2 is still circulating at a significant level".
    The report said that five regions had a Rt number over 1: Emilia Romagna and Veneto (1.2), Tuscany (1.12), Lazio (1.07) and Piedmont (1.06).
    The R number for Lombardy is 0.92. (ANSA).
