(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 9 - 2019 was the third hottest year in Italy since 1961, environment ministry study centre ISPRA said Thursday.
It said 2018 was the hottest and 2015 the second hottest.
The 'peak of anomaly' last year, ISPRA said, was in June when temperatures were 4.25 C over the norm in the north, 4.0 C over in the centre, and 3.27 C above in the south.
The heat was "particularly intense," the report said, between June 26 and 29 2019.
This was when new records were set in the north west and Alpine areas.
There were also "significant extreme weather events" last year, the report said.
These included an intense storm that hit Liguria and Piedmont on October 21.
There was also an unusually long period of bad weather in November. (ANSA).
