(ANSA) - MILAN, JUL 3 - About a dozen people have been placed under investigation in connection with a suspected phone scam in which users paid for services they never received, Italian police said on Friday.
    The scammed clients were charged without authorising payment, police said.
    Police said the scam had thousands of victims.
    Milan prosecutor Francesco Greco said clients had been "subjected to the worst kind of rip-offs".
    He said "the probe is just a symptom of a situation that has to be brought back under control".
    Customers of Italy's three biggest phone companies, Windtre, Vodafone and Tim, were charged for value-added services they never received, polcie said. (ANSA).
