Coronavirus:No. of new cases down to 177

COVID-19 deaths up by 88 to 33,689

(ANSA) - Rome, June 4 - The Civil Protection Department said Thursday that Italy has registered 177 new cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, down from Wednesday's rise of 321. In Lombardy, the worst-hit region, there were 84 new cases, down on Wednesday's rise of 237.
    The department said COVID-19 deaths were up by 88 to 33,689.
    The compares to Wednesday's increase in the death toll of 71.
    In Lombardy there have been 29 deaths in the last 24 hours, the same as Wednesday.
    It said 161,895 people have recovered from the coronavirus here, up 957 in a day. Wednesday's rise was 846.
    The department said 38,429 people are currently infected with the coronavirus in Italy, 868 down. Wednesday's fall was 596.
    The total number of cases in Italy, including the currently positive, the deceased and those who have recovered, is now 234,013.
    The department said 338 coronavirus patients are in intensive care in Italy, 15 down on Wednesday. Of these, 125 are in Lombardy, six down on Wednesday.
