(ANSA) - Rome, June 1 - A bogus email on the government's new
tracking and tracing coronavirus app purporting to be from
Italian pharmacists instead downloads a computer virus that
takes devices hostage and asks for a ransom - so-called
ransomware - the government's cybersecurity agency AGID-CERT
said Monday.
The Immuni tracking and tracing app is set to be released
around Italy soon.
The email carrying the ransomware bug asks users to clock on
a fake site posing as that of the federation of Italian
pharmacists guilds, FOFI.
The ransomware virus is called FuckUnicorn, AGID-CERT said.
The tracking and tracing app is set to be a crucial tool in
the next phase of the coronavirus emergency.
Similar viruses have been reported in other countries.
