Worker dies falling into hole

(ANSA) - Ascoli Piceno, February 18 - A 65-year-old worker died in a workplace accident at San Benedetto del Tronto in Marche on Tuesday.
    The man was working on an underground water pipe when he fell into the hole and was engulfed in earth, local sources said.
    Unfavourable conditions prevented him from being treated on the spot, sources said.
    He was taken to a local hospital where he died shortly after being admitted.
    The man was close to retiring, sources said.
    Police are at the scene trying to reconstruct the dynamics of what happened.
    An autopsy has been ordered.
