(ANSA) - Brussels, August 21 - European Union data protection
and privacy watchdog Giovanni Buttarelli died overnight at the
age of 62, the agency said Wednesday.
Buttarelli was previously Italian privacy authority secretary
general, from 1997 to 2009.
He was named assistant EU privacy watchdog in 2009 and served
in that post until 2014.
The cause of death was not immediately available.
