(ANSA) - Rome, June 19 - Carabinieri police from the Sicilian
city of Agrigento detained seven people in a major anti-Mafia
operation on Wednesday, sources said.
Among the people held were Angelo Occhipinti, a 64-year-old
who is suspected of being at the helm of the clan in the nearby
town of Licata.
A Licata town councillor was also detained and is accused of
external involvement in mafia association.
The operation is linked to an operation which uncovered
evidence that a company involved in building work in Germany was
allegedly being subject to extortion.
It also shed light on allegedly mafia involvement in the
slot-machine sector.
