(ANSA) - Trapani, March 21 - Carabinieri police on Thursday
staged an operation to execute 27 arrest warrants related to a
probe into a secret Masonic lodge in the Sicilian town of
Castelvetrano, the place of birth of fugitive Cosa Nostra boss
Matteo Messina Denaro.
Former Forza Italia (FI) MP and former Sicilian regional
assembly president Francesco Cascio is among the suspects and
has been put under house arrest, sources said.
Former FI regional councillor Giovanni Lo Sciuto and the
former mayor of Castelvetrano, Felice Errante, were arrested
too, according to the sources.
Another 10 people are under investigation in relation to the
case in addition to the individuals who were arrested.
The suspects are accused of crimes against the public
administration and secret criminal association.
