(ANSA) - Rome, February 21 - Sassari Prefect Giuseppe Marani
has been named Italy's milk czar amid a protest by Sardinian
farmers against low prices, Farm Minister Gian Marco Centinaio
said Thursday.
He said Marani had been appointed by Interior Minister Matteo
Salvini, who is dealing with the crisis along with Centinaio.
The 5-Star Movement on Thursday urged Centinaio to earmark
all the milk budget for Sardinian and Sicilian farmers.
The farmers have rejected a dairy industry offer to raise the
price of milk and have said they want it hiked from the current
60 cents a litre to 70 cents immediately and one euro in the
medium term.
