Facebook found guilty of breaching Mediaset copyright

First time social network convicted in Italy says TV network

(ANSA) - Rome, February 20 - Mediaset said Wednesday that, for the first time in Italy, Facebook has been found guilty of breaching copyright.
Silvio Berlusconi's TV network said the case regarded a page set up by an anonymous user in 2012 and devoted to a cartoon screened by its Italia Uno channel, Kilari.
The page featured links to content illegally uploaded to Youtube and denigratory comments about the people involved in the show. Mediaset said it took action after Facebook ignored repeated requests for the page to be deleted.
It said a Rome court had ruled that Facebook had breached copyright and was guilty of defamation by hosting this page. Mediaset said the case had "modest economic value" but was "crucial in principle".
