(ANSA) - Rome, February 18 - A third of the fruit and
vegetables on sale in Italy contains traces of pesticides,
according to a report by environmental association Legambiente
presented in Rome on Monday.
It added, however, that only 1.3% had pesticide levels above
the legal limits.
This compared to 4% above the legal threshold for fruit and
vegetables imported from abroad.
The study said Italian organic food almost always complied
with the rules and was without pesticide residues.
