(ANSA) - Rome, December 10 - Two people are dead and around 40 suffered smoke intoxication after a fire broke out in a four-storey building near to the train station in the northern city of Reggio Emilia, sources said Monday. Around 10 of those people are in red code in hospital in a serious condition, including a woman and two children aged three and six.
The victims are a North African couple, the sources said. The local Moroccan community expressed outrage at the disaster.
"It has been known for years that the cellars (in the building) were illegally occupied and no one did anything," community representative Abderrahim Mouloudj told ANSA.
"These people are the victims of degradation and of badly managed integration".
