(ANSA) - Rome, October 23 - Carabinieri police on Tuesday
arrested 42 people in an operation targeting a criminal
organization suspected of being rival to the Spada mafia clan in
the Rome seaside district of Ostia.
The suspected head of the organization is an elderly man who
was in the past considered a senior member of other gangs,
sources said.
The operation took place in Campania, Tuscany, Lombardy and
Marche as well as in Lazio, the region around Rome.
Some two million euros in assets were seized from suspects.
