(ANSA) - Rome, September 20 - A woman inmate at Rome's Rebibbia prison who killed her two children earlier this week had been reported to authorities for "a worrying intolerance" towards them, penitentiary body DAP said Thursday.
Justice Minister Alfonso Bonafede has sacked the head of the women's section and ordered a probe into how the incident could have happened.
DAP chief Francesco Basentini said the German woman, in jail since August 28 on drugs charges, "had on several occasions been flagged for some behaviour, symptomatic of a worrying intolerance towards the two little ones".
Prison staff had recommended a psychiatric evaluation, he said.
Four-month-old Faith died instantly on Tuesday while her 20-month-old brother Divine was declared brain dead Wednesday night.
