(ANSA) - Ischia, August 23 - A boy who saved his two brothers by hiding them under a bed after a quake hit Ischia Monday night said on Wednesday he thought of God when he was pulled from the rubble after his siblings on Tuesday.
"My first thought when I saw the light again was God," said Ciro Marmolo, 11, who spent 16 hours in the rubble before joining his brothers Mattias, eight, and Pasqualino, seven months.
"So He really exists, I thought". Ciro was dubbed a hero for saving his brothers while the rescue of the three siblings was deemed miraculous.
Pope Francis said at his Wednesday general audience that he was praying for the two women killed by the quake and the 42 injured, one seriously, as well as the 2,600 people who lost their homes.
Ciro, who suffered multiple abrasions and a broken right toe, is set to be moved to hospital in Naples later today.
