(ANSA) - Strasbourg, April 20 - Italy is one of the European
countries with the highest number of prisoners awaiting trial in
preventive custody, the 47-nation Council of Europe said
Thursday.
This has led to "severe" jail overcrowding in several
countries with Italy again near the top in the CoE standings, it
said.
