December 16 doctors' strike called off

Due to govt crisis

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, December 9 - A December 16 doctors' strike in Italy has been called off because of the Italian government crisis.
Doctors unions complained that, because of the crisis which meant the 2017 budget bill was pushed through parliament unchanged, they had been unable to secure necessary changes.
Doctors, vets and public-health managers said a week ago they would strike against what they called a "derisory" pay rise in the budget.
The doctors said the hike is "the equivalent of two coffees a day".
The strike was initially set for November 28 but was scrubbed by Italy's strike authority.
