Girl, 6, chokes to death at school (2)

(ANSA) - Pisa, December 2 - A six-year-old disabled girl choked to death Friday after swallowing a sponge at an elementary school in Pisa, ANSA sources said. An emergency medical team vainly tried to revive her. The girl was said to have been in a "common area" of the school when the piece of sponge became lodged in her throat. Teachers and support staff only realised what had happened when she was no longer breathing, sources said.
