(ANSA) - Rome, December 1 - There were scenes of tension in a Rome court on Thursday when a 24-year-old Cuban, Yoandris Medina Nunez, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for shooting dead his ex-girlfriend, 23-year-old Nicole Lelli, in November 2015. The victim's family and friends tried to attack Medina Nunez and hurled insults at the judge for what they considered an excessively soft sentence. The prosecutor had requested a life sentence for premeditated murder. The preliminary hearings judge ruled the crime was not premeditated and cut off a third of the 30-year sentence because it was a fast-track trial, according to Italian law. When the sentence was read out there were shouts of "shame", "villains", "he'll be free in a few years" and "let us lynch him".
