Probing former patients and deaths in suspects' families

(ANSA) - Varese, November 30 - Investigators in Busto Arsizio, just northwest of Milan, said Friday that there may be more victims than previously thought in the case of five suspicious deaths that led to the arrests on Thursday of physician Leonardo Cazzaniga and his lover, nurse Laura Taroni.
The probe is widening after authorities on Thursday seized considerable documentation regarding the deaths of patients treated by Cazzaniga at the Saronno city hospital ER in recent years.
Investigators are also looking into the death of Cazzaniga's father, who died in the Saronno hospital ER while Cazzaniga was on duty, and the death of Taroni's mother, with whom they said Taroni had a bad relationship.
Cazzaniga, 60, who is also described as an anesthetist, was arrested in the deaths of four patients at the Saronno hospital as well as his lover's husband.
