Earthquake damage to schools assessed

'Monitoring non-stop since the last one'

(ANSA) - Naples, October 27 - The assessment of damage to and monitoring of schools in the area hit by a major earthquake in late August and again by two quakes yesterday has been ongoing since the first incident, Education Minister Stefania Giannini said Thursday on the sidelines of an event in Naples.
"It is now a case of understanding whether this latest incident, which thus far has not had such a major effect on human lives as the one two months ago did, has led to damage or situations that require extensive verification," she said. She added that the government had - through a decree signed two weeks ago - allocated 15 million euros after the August 24 earthquake specifically for the school buildings in the area.
The first quake killed 298 people. The latest two did not kill anyone, apart from a man who had a heart attack.
