33 'clock-in cheats' probed in Biella (2)

(ANSA) - Biella, September 30 - Police said Friday they had placed 33 municipal employees in the northwestern town of Biella under investigation for fraud for clocking in to work falsely and then allegedly going about their own business. The probe began in April and the employees were secretly filmed clocking in and then going on various pursuits, police said. Eight of the 33 have been barred from living in Biella for the time being, police said. The case is the latest in a stream of clock-in scandals that has prompted the government to launch a clampdown, making dismissals almost automatic and also mandating the dismissal of superiors who do not take action.
