Slovakia to propose changes to Dublin

'Against migrant quotas'

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Bratislava, June 30 - Slovakia's undersecretary for the interior ministry, Denisa Sakova, said Thursday in presenting the country's term as EU duty president that it was against migrant quotas and that it would be proposing changes to the Dublin Regulation.
The country will take on the role on Friday.
"We want dialogue and to truly engage in discussion. And maybe other countries have other proposals, too," she said. She also praised Italy's idea for a "compact" with African countries.
The migration compact proposed by Italian Premier Matteo Renzi would require the EU to offer financial incentives to countries, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, for them to curb migrant flows and readmit them after deportation.
An initial group of countries slated for talks include Ethiopia, Eritrea, Mali, Nigeria, Niger, Jordan and Lebanon.
