(see related)(ANSA) - Caserta, June 23 - The mother of Antonio Giglio on Thursday denied responsibility in the death of her three-year-old son, who fell from a seventh-floor apartment in Caivano near Naples in 2013.
"The accusations against me are false," said the ex-girlfriend of 44-year-old Raimondo Caputo, the man who is accused of raping and killing six-year-old Fortuna Loffredo by throwing her off an eighth-floor balcony in the same apartment complex in 2014.
"Antonio died by accident - to this day I can't fathom how it could have happened," said the woman, who is in pretrial custody on conspiracy child molestation charges.
Prosecutors believe she threw three-year-old Giglio off the balcony on April 27, 2013.
The suspect says her son fell out of the window after leaning out too far to watch a passing helicopter.
Caputo has told investigators that his ex-girlfriend killed the little boy.
