(ANSAmed) - Bolzano, April 27 - Austrian authorities on
Wednesday asked to be able to conduct road and rail migrant
controls in Italian territory. "The setting up of a fence on the
Italo-Austrian border depends on Italy," said the head of the
Tyrol police, Helmut Tomac. "In view of the imminent meeting
between (interior) ministers (Wolfgang) Sobotka and (Angelino)
Alfano in Rome, the fence construction work has been put off,"
he said. The controversial fence project has been criticised by
Italy and by human rights groups.
