GPs until midnight, 7 days a week

New regulations should alleviate non-emergency ER visits

(ANSA) - Rome, April 13 - New regulations on general practitioners set to be approved by the government-regions health board on Wednesday stipulate the availability of a GP from 8 a.m. to midnight seven days a week, as well as the ability to make appointments with a specialist directly from the GP's office rather than a central appointment window.
Giacomo Milillo, secretary of GP union FIMMG, said the new regulations should help alleviate non-emergency visits to the ER.
"It's a bracket that makes more doctors available throughout the day, covering periods of time that are currently less covered, such as 8-10 a.m. and 2-4 p.m.," Milillo said.
