(ANSA) - Rome, March 16 - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi made "evident and significant steps forward" on the case of murdered Italian student Giulio Regeni in an interview with La Repubblica Wednesday and now "all together we will find the culprits," Premier Matteo Renzi told the House. El-Sisi, he said, said "very important words that confirm what he calls the special relationship between Italy and Egypt. The involvement of (Rome Chief) Prosecutor (Giuseppe) Pignatone is important, and there should be a shared investigation. In the interview, he noted, the president "directly addresses the Regeni family." El-Sisi told La Repubblica that Egypt intended to make new efforts to lend fresh impetus to a previously slow-moving probe.
He also noted that Regeni's body was found on February 3, during an important trade visit by an Italian delegation led by Industry Minister Federica Guidi, and suggested the body was dumped to try to spoil Egypt-Italy relations.
