(ANSA) - Rome, January 26 - Rome Prefect Franco Gabrielli
Tuesday rejected criticism that authorities had responded
sluggishly to a scare when a man walked through Termini railway
station carrying a toy assault rifle.
"I am often criticised for the outcome of an event," said
Gabrielli, "in this case an Italian citizen with a regular job
wanted to take this toy to his son. That's it.
"Then we can draw from this affair indications on how to
improve a system that in this case showed it does respond.
Because I have heard talk of slowness but we were informed about
this at 7:26 p.m.".
Gabrielli thanked citizens who raised the alarm at the
station Monday evening.
"A mature security system includes the people
participating," he said.
