(ANSA) - Catania, November 24 - Police on Tuesday arrested
37 people in relation to alleged drugs offences committed in and
around Sicily's second largest city, Catania.
Investigators say the suspects have links to the
Cappello-Bonaccorsi Mafia clan specialised in drug trafficking
in the area.
They include the owner of a charitable organisation running
an ambulance service in Catania and an undertaker whose business
allegedly served as the criminal organisation's logistical base.
The suspects face various charges including drugs and
weapons-related offences.
On occasion the drugs were reportedly transported by
ambulance with the sirens blaring to elude controls.
