Man shot dead after stealing car

(ANSA) - Varese, October 6 - A man was shot dead by Carabinieri police overnight after stealing a car and hitting an officer while trying to escape, ANSA sources said on Tuesday.
    The incident took place in the town of Gallarate, near the northern city of Varese, the sources said. The dead man, a 40-year-old Italian, was one of two people aboard a Fiat Panda that was stolen on Monday. Carabinieri identified the stolen car and, when police flagged it down to stop, one was hit by the vehicle, prompting another officer opened fire.
