State of emergency post-storm in Tuscany

Extreme weather caused massive damage

(ANSA) - Florence, August 3 - Tuscany Governor Enrico Rossi on Monday signed a state of emergency declaration for damage caused by a violent storm on Saturday that hit Florence and other parts of Tuscany.
    Five national civil protection inspectors are scheduled to visit Florence on Tuesday to assess the damage.
    During the storm, one month's worth of rain fell in just 45 minutes, 60,000 lightning strikes were registered, and hundreds of trees were knocked over by strong winds.
    Immigrant refugees on Monday were put to work on a volunteer basis in helping to clear debris from the streets.
