(ANSA) - Milan, July 29 - Carabinieri military police on
Wednesday rescued 65 starved, abused dogs being held in
deplorable conditions at an illegal kennel in a Milan-area
farmhouse.
The dogs were locked in darkened, filthy rooms without food
or water in spite of a heat wave and record high temperatures.
Law enforcement also found a number of dead puppies.
A local hunter, whose dogs have won a number of
competitions, has been charged with unlawful animal killing and
animal abuse.
He was also charged with giving the dogs expired medicine,
running an illegal kennel, and obstructing law enforcement
during a search.
The rescued dogs were treated and taken to a shelter.
