Bardo attack suspect asks for release

'No flight risk, here for family' lawyers say

(ANSA) - Milan, May 29 - Defense lawyers for a Moroccan national arrested in Italy for suspected involvement in Tunis' Bardo Museum attack in March have asked he be granted release from prison into house arrest, officials reported on Friday.
Lawyers for 22-year-old Abdel Majid Touil filed a motion for his release, citing that there "is no flight risk" because he came to Italy not to "escape" but to be reunited with his family.
Touil was arrested earlier in the month on an international warrant issued by Tunisia, where investigators say he participated in the March 18 Bardo that killed 22 people. Touil has repeatedly professed his innocence, telling a judge at the extradition hearing that he had been living in Italy since February.
Sources said he has been transferred from Milan's medium security San Vittore prison to maximum security at the city's outlying Opera penitentiary.
Touil's trial is scheduled for June 15.
