(ANSA) - Ascoli Piceno, May 20 - The commander and deputy
commander of a Carabinieri military police station in the Marche
region have been arrested on charges of corruption, abuse of
office and omission of duty, sources said Wednesday.
The suspects allegedly asked tradesmen in the town of
Monsampolo del Tronto for bribes in exchange for looking the
other way during administrative check-ups earlier this year.
"This regrettable incident proves the (Carabinieri) corps
is a healthy mechanism with the antibodies to face this type of
situation," Carabinieri provincial commander Ciro La Volla said.
