(ANSA) - Genoa, May 5 - The dismissal of Francesco Schettino, the disgraced former captain of the Costa Concordia cruise liner which ran aground off Giglio Island on January 13, 2012, with the loss of 32 lives, is justified, a local court said Tuesday.
The decision was taken by Judge Enrico Ravera at the Genoa Labour Tribunal who deposited the verdict recently.
The judge accepted a petition by the cruise company, presented by its lawyer Camillo Paroletti, arguing the legality and validity of the sacking.
Schettino is appealing a 16-year jail term after being convicted of multiple manslaughter, causing a shipwreck, abandoning ship and abandoning the incapable in February.
