Pensioner used rope in bid to swing into Polish ex-spouse's home

(ANSA) - Livorno, March 31 - A 76-year-old man plunged to his death Tuesday as he tried to swing into his ex-wife's sixth floor apartment on a rope attached to the rooftop, police said.
The man, a retired artisan, was carrying a gasoline cannister with about 10 litres of fuel in a rucksack when he fell.
The Italian man had owned the apartment but lost possession to his Polish ex-wife, who is 20 years younger than him. Passers-by in the centre of the Tuscan port town of Livorno watched as the man clambered onto the roof of the building and tried to lower himself down the rope and swing into the apartment.
The man lost his grip on the rope, however, and plunged to his death in the building's courtyard. The man, who was not identified, had been banned from visiting his ex wife after alleged stalking.
