(ANSA) - Vicenza, March 26 - A court in the northern city of
Vicenza on Thursday sentenced a 39-year-old woman to five years
in jail for killing two people while driving under the influence
of alcohol .
Sheila Cortiana, a bar tender in the town of Leguzzano, was
also sentenced to pay 60,000 euros to each of the victims'
families.
Cortiana on September 28, 2013, killed a woman and man, and
wounded the man's wife, after she lost control of her car while
driving drunk, crashing into the victims' vehicle.
The Senate is currently examining a bill introducing the
crime of 'road murder', which provides for a jail term of up to
12 years for motorists who kill someone while driving under the
influence of drugs or alcohol.
