But situation reversed in maths, science

(ANSA) - Paris, March 5 - Italian girls perform better than boys at school, but the situation is reversed when it comes specifically to science and mathematics, according to a study released by the OECD on Thursday.
The report said 15-year-old Italian girls on average scored 18 points higher in the OECD's PISA test than boys in 2012.
But when it came to science and maths, the boys did five points better. The report said that "girls lack the same self-confidence as boys in science and maths". It added that only 5% of Italian girls were considering a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
