(ANSA) - Messina, February 26 - Eight people were detained
on Thursday on suspicion of criminal association for the
purposes of reduction into slavery involving an eight-year old
boy from Romania.
The suspects - six Italians and two Romanians - included a
couple from the Sicilian city of Messina who allegedly paid a
presumed local criminal organisation 30,000 euros for the boy
instead of following normal adoption procedures.
Police made their sweep as the couple was handing over the
money in exchange for the boy.
