Telephone worker with mafia ties accused

(ANSA) - Reggio Calabria, January 27 - Police said Tuesday that a telephone company labourer involved with the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta Mob was responsible for a series of death threats against two anti-mafia prosecutors in southern Italy.
    Francesco Gennaro Triolo, 47, allegedly made some calls from a building where he was working located near the home of threatened prosecutor Giuseppe Lombardo.
    Threats were also made against deputy prosecutor Nicola Gratteri.
    The calls, made between November 2014 and last week, included some made from public telephone booths, said the Guardia di Finanza police in Reggio Calabria.
    They were investigating after threats were made to the switchboards at their offices and to the Carabinieri headquarters in the region.
    Police say they suspect Triolo was involved with a planned attack on Lombardo involving 200 kilograms of explosives.
    The caller kept the conversations brief and uttered such threats as "there's a bomb in Caserta park for the (prosecutor) Lombardo" or "We are ready to kill Gratteri".
    The caller also revealed the mafia was watching Lombardo closely, stating in a call "at 20:37 hours (prosecutor) Lombardo returned home".
    Prosecutors say they are still investigating Triolo's connections.
    That includes his brother Giuseppe Triolo who had been previously acquitted on allegations of making similar threats to the same two prosecutors as well as numerous other judges.
