Police in shootout with Kalashnikov-armed robbers

(ANSA) - Vercelli, January 27 - Carabinieri police were involved in a shoot-out overnight with a gang of around 10 bandits armed with Kalashnikovs who were attempting to rob a security firm vault with a bulldozer in the northern town of Quinto Vercellese, near Vercelli, ANSA sources said Tuesday. The bandits set light to a number of cars as they made their getaway. A numbers of roads in the area remain closed to traffic.
