(ANSA) - Vercelli, January 27 - Carabinieri police were involved in a shoot-out overnight with a gang of robbers armed with Kalashnikovs, ANSA sources said Tuesday. The gang of at least 10 people was attempting to rob a vault belonging to the Fidelitas security firm in the northern town of Quinto Vercellese, near Vercelli.
They had brought a truck with a bulldozer, and were attempting to bust their way through an outer wall to reach the vault when security guards raised the alarm. The bandits set a number of cars on fire as they made their getaway after their foiled robbery. Several roads in the area remain closed to traffic.
