12 Italians injured in Spain NATO crash - Pinotti

One critical with 60% burns

(ANSA) - Rome, January 27 - Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti told the Senate on Tuesday that 12 Italians were among the injured when an F16 crashed into a Spanish airbase during a NATO pilot training exercise Monday. Eleven people, including the two Greek pilots, were killed in the accident at the Las Lanos base in Albacete. One of the Italians is critical, with burns covering 60% of the body, and is about to have surgery, Pinotti said. Initial reports had said at least nine Italians were injured in the accident. The aircraft went down during the take-off stage at the base used for NATO pilot training which involves individuals from a range of nationalities.
