(ANSA) - Forli, January 26 - Hit-and-run accidents were up 3.7% in 2014, with a total of 1,009 hit-and-runs reported, despite an overall decline in traffic accidents, according to a report released on Monday by the Association of Supporters and Friends of Traffic Police (ASAPS).
In investigations following the hit-and-runs, 57.8% of the perpetrators were caught, 24.2% of whom were non-Italian.
The majority of the hit-and-runs occurred in Lombardy (141), followed by Emilia-Romagna (105), Veneto (94), and Lazio (92).
The ASAPS study doesn't examine all cases of hit-and-runs in Italy but only those deemed the "most serious" in that they made news or were selected according to specific criteria by the 700 members of ASAPS.
