Decomposed body of Elena Ceste, mother of four, found near Turin

(ANSA) - Turin, October 24 - Prosecutors on Friday placed the husband of Elena Ceste, a 37-year-old mother of four who went missing in January and whose body was found at the weekend, under investigation for murder.
Ceste's body was found October 18 in a state of advanced decomposition by workers cleaning a drainage canal in the countryside near Turin, not far from the couple's home.
Her husband Michele Buoninconti, a firefighter, reported her missing on January 24.
"She asked me to pick the kids up from school because she wasn't feeling well," Buoninconti told police that day. "I never saw her again".
Ceste had disappeared without a trace, leaving her car, her cell phone, and her wedding ring behind. "Violence against women is today's most widespread violation of human rights," said psychoanalyst Benedetta Guerrini, a consultant for the Florence Center Against Violence on Women and Children.
Statistics show that 2,200 women were murdered in Italy between 2001 and 2012, 70.7% of them by family members or loved ones, Guerrini said.
"That is an average of 171 homicides a year, or one every two days," Guerrini said.
