Taxes stopped till Dec 20 in Liguria fl

Relief promised for area hit between October 10 through 14

(ANSA) - Rome, October 21 - Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan on Tuesday signed a decree suspending taxes in the Liguria areas hit by recent devastating floods, including the city of Genoa, until December 20. The floods wreaked havoc and killed one person in the northwestern port city. The decree covers the area and all residents affected by the flooding that struck between October 10 through 14.
The disaster raised questions about why work on flood protection systems was not done after a similar disaster in 2011 that killed six people.
Money had been earmarked for shoring up the region, but projects became bogged down in legal and bureaucratic disputes. Investigators have said they would look into flood prevention measures, riverbed maintenance, failure to raise the alarm, the city's civil protection plan, and administrators' actions.
