Tax breaks for loan shark reporting in Naples

'We stand by brave and honest citizens' says mayor

(ANSA) - Naples, September 24 - Those reporting loan sharks will be rewarded with a three-year municipal tax break once the culprits are found guilty in court, Naples Mayor Luigi de Magistris said Wednesday.
The measure is contained in the city government's budget bill now before the city council.
"This is a revolutionary principle," said de Magistris, a former anti-mafia prosecutor and MEP who is from the centrist, anti-corruption Italy of Values (IdV) party. "We are trying to promote the reporting of hateful crimes such as loan sharking and racketeering through economic incentives, while signaling that institutions stand by honest and courageous citizens".
