(refiling with editor's code) (ANSA) - Zarzis, Tunisia, August 21 - Seventy five illegal immigrants heading for Italy have been rescued by Tunisian fishermen after their boat drifted for five days in rough weather off north Africa, maritime sources said Thursday.
The migrants from Bangladesh, Ghana and Nigeria embarked for Italy at the Libyan port of Zuara but lost their way during bad weather and asked a passing Tunisian fishing boat for help after their food and water ran out, said the sources.
The fishermen towed the vessel to the southern Tunisian port of Zarzis where the migrants disembarked in exhausted condition and were due to be questioned by Tunisian naval authorities.
